Silicone powder is used in some simple plastic processing techniques

Usage Instructions

Direct Addition: For simple plastic processing, such as small injection molding plants or family workshops, silicone powder can be directly mixed with the plastic raw materials at a certain ratio (usually determined based on the type of plastic and processing requirements, generally between 0.1% and 5%), and then processed normally.

Masterbatch Method: In large-scale industrial production, the masterbatch method is more commonly used. First, silicone powder is mixed with a portion of the plastic raw materials to create a masterbatch containing a high concentration of silicone powder. Then, the masterbatch is mixed with the remaining plastic raw materials in the required ratio. This allows for more even dispersion of the silicone powder throughout the plastic system, ensuring its effective performance.

Selection Considerations

Silicone Content: Higher silicone content generally results in better lubrication, but also a higher price. Generally, depending on the application requirements, silicone powder with a silicone content between 30% and 80% is suitable.

Particle Size: Smaller particle sizes allow for easier uniform dispersion in the plastic system, resulting in a more pronounced effect. Silicone powder with a particle size between 5 and 20 μm is generally preferred; however, smaller particle sizes may result in higher prices.

Compatibility with Plastics: Ensure the silicone powder has good compatibility with the type of plastic being used. Otherwise, phenomena such as layering and precipitation may occur, affecting the quality of the plastic products.

Precautions:

Storage Conditions: Store silicone powder in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place, avoiding moisture, heat, and direct sunlight to prevent changes in its properties.

Mixing Uniformity: During use, ensure the silicone powder is thoroughly and evenly mixed with the plastic raw materials. Otherwise, it may result in excessively strong or weak local lubrication, affecting the quality and processing performance of the plastic products.

Safety Precautions: Although silicone powder is generally a low-toxicity substance, large-volume contact may cause irritation to the skin and eyes. Therefore, appropriate protective equipment, such as gloves and goggles, should be worn during handling.

Silicone powder, a plastic lubricant, plays an important role in the plastics processing field. Correct selection and use can effectively improve the processing performance and quality of plastic products.
