Difference between PA6 and PA66
2026-04-14 08:41:51

Application Areas Differ

PA6 is a type of material with good toughness, commonly used in climbing arms, automotive structural parts, etc.

PA66 is a type of material with both toughness and hardness, used in industrial gears and engineering components such as marine propellers.

Injection Molding Processes Differ

1. Drying Methods Differ

PA6 Drying Treatment: Because PA6 easily absorbs moisture, special attention must be paid to drying before processing. If the material is supplied in waterproof packaging, the container should be kept sealed. If the humidity is greater than 0.2%, it is recommended to dry in hot air above 80°C for 16 hours. If the material has been exposed to air for more than 8 hours, vacuum drying at 105°C for at least 8 hours is recommended.

PA66 Drying Treatment: If the material is sealed before processing, then drying is not necessary. However, if the storage container has been opened, then drying in hot air at 85°C is recommended. If the humidity is greater than 0.2%, vacuum drying at 105°C for 12 hours is also required.

2. Different Melting Temperatures

PA Melting Temperature: 230~280℃, 250~280℃ for reinforced nylon.

PA66 Melting Temperature: 260~290℃. 275~280℃ for glass-modified products. Melting temperature should not exceed 300℃.

3. Different Temperatures

PA6 Mold Temperature: 80~90℃. Mold temperature significantly affects crystallinity, which in turn affects the mechanical properties of the molded part.

Mold Temperature: Recommended 80℃. Mold temperature will affect crystallinity, which in turn affects the physical properties of the product.

4. Different Injection Speeds

PA6 Injection Speed: Fast (slightly lower for reinforced nylon).

Runners and Gates: Due to the very short solidification time of PA6, the gate location is very important. The gate diameter should not be less than 0.5*t (where t is the thickness of the molded part). If using a hot runner system, the gate size should be smaller than when using a conventional runner system, as the hot runner helps prevent premature solidification of the material. If using a submarine gate, the minimum gate diameter should be 0.75 mm.

PA66 Injection Speed: Fast (slightly lower for reinforced materials).

Injection Pressure: Typically 750~1250 bar, depending on the material and product design.
